ypes.... in the kansan paper...

If you're over in Lawrence, Kan. during the weekend, watch out for snakes. The Lawrence Journal-World reports biologists are looking for a South American viper snake that is on the loose near Haskell Indian Nations University. The snake is not native to the area.

non-white ethnic, racial minority populations had collectively become the majority. Wyandotte county among them!
from the kansan paper

Fourth Kansas County features minorities as majority

Last Friday, a CNN.com story highlighted one Kansas county where non-white ethnic, racial minority populations had collectively become the majority.

But Finney County isn't the only county in Kansas with a minority-majority population.

Over the weekend, the Wichita Eagle noted three other counties in Kansas share a similar distinction: Ford, Seward and Wyandotte counties.

The news is based off of a U.S. Census Bureau release this month of updated data ahead of the 2010 census.

Still though, why was it NOT concluded that hispanic, whites, and blacks were the majority over native Americans? Or that native Americans, blacks, whites and chinese were the majority over hispanics? Or that whites, blacks, hispanic and native Americans were the majority over chinese?

Seems the noted results singled-out whites for some reason.

Should Edwardsville pay to update its City Hall?
Discussion
sothrnrn (Anonymous) says…

Do you think the people of edwardsville really want to spend money to fix up city hall (so people who pay their tickets don't have to walk around the building and be embarassed), while they are in the process of laying off two firemen. I would much rather know if I had a fire or a medical emergency, firemen/emts would be there right away. I just can't see doing improvements on city hall when you are in process of a budget crunch and have to lay off employees and ask employees to take less days off etc. I heard the mayor does not care that petitions were signed by people in Edwardsville who do not want to lay off their firemen.

Does the city think the residents are stupid? How are they going to say “we are broke and firemen have to be laid off because it” but now that the police need a new building they can take a $500,000 loan at 4% interest which turns out to be $800,000 in debt and think everythings going to be ok. So they are saying let take away from safety so we can build a building….wow thanks city hall for looking out for your residents. What a joke!

We agree with Scarlet Mission that city hall doesn't care about the residents of Edwardsville and that they are a joke . We all so think its time they stopped passing ordinances without having a website to see what their passing , very convenient for the city I'd say .

While I can see that Edwardsville is in need of a new City Hall, I tent to agree with most of the post that you don't layoff personnel and build a new building.

The real 'Kansas City Spirit' was painted by Norman Rockwell and John Atherton to celebrate the city's recovery from the devastating 1951 flood. Hallmark Cards Inc. founder Joyce C. Hall, who commissioned the work, said the picture was created to 'forever symbolize that something in good men's hearts that makes them put service above self and accomplish the impossible.'

what a car! http://www.kansascity.com/

1911 Stafford

The star attraction at the upcoming Art of the Car Concours is a 1911 Stafford car, believed to be the only Stafford car still in existence. The Stafford was on display Thursday morning at the Harry S. Truman Library and Museum in Independence. Truman purchased a used Stafford in 1913 prior to his marriage to Bess Wallace. An estimated 185 vintage vehicles will be on display Saturday for The Art of the Car Concours at the Kansas City Art Institute. STAFFORD0625

car lovers!

http://www.bonnersprings.com/news/2009/jun/25/vintage-cars-sold-local-world-renowned-business/
1958 Chevrolet Del Ray “Fuelie” stands proudly in the showroom at Wagner’s Auto Body and Sales, Inc. Features of the car include a 4-speed transmission and a correct air cleaner and distributor. The Del Ray has low mileage and sells for $60,000. Willie Wagner has been selling classic cars such as this one since 1980 and sells about 125 cars in a good year.

$65,000 street rod patterned after a 1939 Ford is for sale at Wagner’s. This car is new, with a flame-inspired paint job, but has a classic feel to it and features coil over suspension, an aluminum radiator and a custom leather ostrich interior. Scott Wagner said that only 20 percent of the classic cars in the shop are sold to Bonner Springs residents, the rest all over the world.

My second Mom and I went to the Olive Garden for dinner this evening. She had the Lasagna and said it was delicious. I, on the other hand odered their latest advertized special, Beef Medallions Crustini. At $14.50 it was awful. The crustini was limp. The steak medallions were tiny and way too thick, as well as tougher than shoe leather. (They should have been pounded thin.) The pasta was way past aldente and the sauce was so watery it wouldn't stick to the pasta. They also tried to serve me the chicken crustini, not once but TWICE! (Maybe I should have tried that instead! )

Last week we had dinner there and I had the weekly advertized special with the sweet Italian sausage and the tomato/alfredo sauce with pasta. It was EXCELLENT!

Both times we ate at the same resturant.
