PostSubject: Political podium   Sat Feb 14, 2009 10:38 pm

This is going to be one of those trial forums that could mature as I hope or fall completely on it's face. First off,
THIS FORUM IS OPEN TO ANYONE

You do not have to be registered to read or post in this section. If you are already registered you do not have to be logged in as your current screen name. Anyone can sign in as Guest, however, if a politician wants people to know their position, they will need to use their real name. I will do everything in my power to be sure that each politician is who they are claiming to be and not someone speaking for them .
My intent is to let anyone ask questions of elected officials or those running in the next election. I know without a doubt that there are those who frequent our Island that know the people who seek election and who are currently serving in office. I would encourage those people to contact those politicians who might be interested in the opinions of citizens that will be voting soon.
This area is also for ANY politician who would like to dispel any rumors about him and/or publicly state their position on anything.
This section will be wide open and will be moderated for obscenities only. All involved should feel free to speak freely. I do however keep the option that at my discretion, I will delete any post or thread that I deem inappropriate.

And so we will let this play out for a few days and see if there is any interest.

Nanny, I couldn't think of a good title for the one I started but if you have a suggestion, I'm all ears. As far as the one the mayor started, in the spirit of not being controlling, I will leave his as is. I do appreciate very much his willingness to post. It is my belief that this could be a thread that gives real people the opportunity to speak for themselves and eliminate the rumors that fly around during the election process. As many know, when we were at the Chieftain forum there were people posting as certain councilmen that were not that person and the Chieftain did nothing to stop it. That will not be the case here. Folks are more than welcome to post as anonymous people or as guest but if they claim to be Pat or Heinz or Stephanie and are found not to be, they will be banned and their IP address as well. This is all about information not misinformation.

I don't know how I can accomplish that Nanny. I would be glad to post the pictures and I would like to see them too but I don't have access to those unless those people would send them to me.

PS' I just sent a letter to the Chieftain about this section to post in their letters to the editor with a link to The Island. We will see if they publish it.

I guess the Chieftain didn't want to post my note to the editor. No big surprise there. Plan "B", to insert a link to The Island in each of the political stories I comment on. They will probably delete those as well but the first one has been in there a few days now. I'm not sure how well the comments are monitored.

I'd like to comment on a certain candidate's flyer that arrived today, but it would not be nice. He managed to distort his previous time on the council and what he really did.
His real track record would sink him.

not only did he distort his record, he also thinks his name will be on the ballot tuesday. At the bottom of the flier it reads support me with your vote on March 3rd. He must have spent nearly $1000.00 to put out a flier and that was a waste of money since he won't be on the ballot.
And he wants to be trusted with city money?

It's going to be hard to get elected if you aren't on the ballot. Maybe he is going for the write in vote.

He'll be on the April ballot, but there will not be a primary in Hooterville.
Wonder who fronted the money for the flyers?

PostSubject: Re: Political podium   Sat Feb 28, 2009 7:11 pm

I would like to say a few words about Bromans candidate letter he states that he believes our city can be more than it is at present,I can say that as we speak our city is not in the red like it was when we went into office at over $250,000 in the red, developement dollars, first of all you need to make sure your talking about the right person for example Richard Petty's Victory Junction Camp it is Kyle and Patty Petty's camp in honor of there son Adam who lost his life, the reason it went where it is now is because the land was either donated or bought at a very low cost remember this camp is none profit everything is done with donations Mr Broman you need to check things out before you write it on paper.
You add create jobs and lower taxes I do not want to raise the mill levy but at times you have to you stated you budgeted tax money from developement that hadn`t came to the city yet and not sure if it was even comming to our city you can`t count you chickens before there hatched.
Stimulus package dollars for your info we are getting the money I can`t say how much because it hasn`t been completly approved but it will be and then it will be public info.

You stated my track record well let us talk about that first of all you supported the contruction of the boat ramp stating none or very little cost to the city but when was done it cost the city almost $100,000 and $40,000 out of the budget from the parks and recs that they didn`t know any thing about and didn`t tell the truth to the people about it till it was completed. You stated hiring many police officers like the ones that were not certified had bad records and all the part time officers paying them $20 an hr and firing ones that were for the AG's investigation now we have a full time Police Chief that is certified and is doing a great job, a City Administrater that will answer your questions and tell you the truth not like the one you supported and doing a great job.
I also believe you were not wanting to see spangler fired but voted to fire him and give him his contract package of upwards to $180,000 of the tax payers money that he did not deserve I know he wanted you all to fire him before the new council came in because he wouldn`t have gotten his money that easy he would have had to sue us for it and i`m sure he didn`t want to get on the witness stand.talking about sueing how much money did the city have to spend on all the lawsuites that you help create remember Broman that is the tax payers money and with all the lawsuites we lost our insurance and had to go with out till new was found thank you very much for that.
You stated NO adult entertainment in this city i have not heard of any one saying anything about that since you left office it has never came up in this new administration and Broman you are not going to be on the march 3rd primary you need to think before you speak.

I got the mailing too, and thought it was kinda funny about the "vote for me in the primary" thing. I also read his article in the chieftan, and felt compelled to post a comment on the online article.

I wonder if there is going to be a candidate forum like they've done in the past?

PostSubject: Broman in action   Mon Mar 02, 2009 9:14 am

I agree with Crider and Broman's previous track record, not to mention that he stood up at one of the Council meetings and tried to explain to the new Council how they can spend money before they get it. Seems that was the Spangler way and Broman seemed to think he was an expert on that. His attendance record to the Council meetings has been sparce at best and spent most of his time talking about the horse manure smell that when the wind blew the right direction he could smell it and didn't think it would help him sell his house.

Bromans teachings from his experience is not what one would call 'ethical' by substance. We do not need to bring back those types of standards into our City Council.

After receiving Bromans campaign literature in the mail prompting people to vote for him on March 3rd I decided to check out his supporters at the bottom of his flyer.
I contacted State Rep. Margaret Long and asked why she was supporting him in this race. To my shock she informed me that she did not support John Broman and "I haven't even talked to John Broman in years".

She was not happy he was using her name.

All I can say is WOW Shocked

Maybe State Rep. Margaret Long can contact the local media stating she does not support him. also call Mr broman & tell him he needs to apologize publically other wise she is going to sue him.

Kit, you know without the "money' support (and other mentalities) , Broman may make several more mistakes and show his intelligence to the rest of the people.
I seriously think Margaret Long should be contacted and call him out. OMG that would be TOO much.

I would think Mrs Brown would not be very happy with someone using her name like that. She should write a letter to the editor of the Chieftain. That and write a post here on The Island of course.
