| I'm gonna try, My, but I don't know how well it will work... If all else fails, I could try to copy and paste, but I bet it's going to copy all of the icons and other things that show in the posts and turn them into nonsense when I paste them... Could be a busy job. I encourage everyone to copy and paste any private messages that you want saved on your own, because even if I figure out a good way to save our forum's history, everyone will be on their own in terms of saving private messages. I was thinking that for Wiseone and Hobo, we could leave posts about the new forum in the threads they frequent often in case they usually only check the threads they post on. I posted about it in Wiseone's "greeting" thread today, so hopefully that will work. |

| A slight change of plans. As we get a thread going here I am going to close that thread on the original site. Why wait ? Anyone who comes will find a link to the new site at the end of every topic that is closed. Thank you all for being so gracious during this small trial. I really think we will be much better off in the long run. |

| Yeah, they're your Western astrology sign (the Greek/Roman stuff we're used to) and your "year animal" from Chinese astrology. Here's more on the Chinese stuff: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_of_the#Table_of_the_lunar_calendar_and_zodiacI personally think it's all kind of goofy. It's amazing as history, and I respect what it once meant to the people who developed and practiced and lived by it, but as a modern, predatory National Enquirer/Jerry Springer-esque/900-number scam, it makes my skin crawl. And it's okay in columns of a magazine/newspapers, just for fun, I guess... At least we're keeping the history alive, even if we're distorting it and simplifying it to an embarrassing degree. |

I am still debating if I wan't to bring over my old avatar or use this one. Someone said my Garfield + my screen name reminded them of a fat old alley cat. |

Astrology=fiction; Astronomy=fact
Carl Sagan (noted American astronomy popularizer), was once asked how much astrology really had an influence over people's lives. He answered stating that the doctor who delivered you, had more of a gravitational influence on your life, than the planet Mars. It is interesting to note that astronomy had its roots in astrology. Early Greek, Roman, Chinese "watchers of the sky", were called astrologers. Their life depended on what they reported to the emperor or king of the times. If they were wrong, in the case of a pair of Chinese astrologers, they lost their heads. It wasn't until people like Copernicus, Brahe, Galileo and others turned it into a science that we now know as astronomy. With advances made over the centuries, we now know that the stars and planets have NO influence at all (except if a comet or asteroid hits us). Notice also that all newsprint services always have the disclaimer "for entertainment purposes only".

| One more thing Back in the early years, there were 12 zodiacal constellations that all astrologers used. Since, over a 23,000 yr time span we wobble like a top on our rotational axis, things have changed. We now actually have THIRTEEN zodiacal constellations! The sun, moon and planets all follow that zodiacal path in our skies. The 13th zodiacal constellation is called Ophiucus (the serpent bearer), and at some point in time, the sun, moon and planets pass through part of that constellation. BUT astrologers ignore that fact because it wrecks their predictions and natal charts. A _________________ Two possibilities exist: Either we are alone in the Universe or we are not. | I think it would be awesome to look at the stars with Astro there so he could explain stuff. I can't find any constellations when I look at the stars. And believe it or not I have never looked through a telescope but have always wanted to |
